What is a toilet waste trap?

A toilet waste trap connects the toilet to the home's sewage system and can exit through the floor or wall. There are three primary types of plumbing configurations for a toilet waste trap, along with a versatile universal option.

S Trap: This type of trap has the waste pipe exiting through the floor and is commonly found in older toilets.

P Trap: In a P trap configuration, the waste exits through the wall directly behind the toilet. This setup is standard for all wall-hung toilets.

Skew Trap: Similar to the P trap, the Skew trap also exits through the wall but on either the left or right side of the toilet, often used when traditional plumbing configurations are challenging.

Universal Trap: This flexible option can be set up as either an S or P trap and is typically used with back-to-the-wall or wall-faced toilets.
